Last week, I had the pleasure of delivering a hands-on session on Smart Social Media Use for members of the WREN programme (Women’s Rural Entrepreneurial Network), supported by Ballyhoura Development CLG.
In a room filled with energy, ambition, and inspiring business ideas, we explored how small business owners can approach social media in a way that is strategic, sustainable, and tailored to their goals — not just another thing on the to-do list.
The session focused on five key areas to help participants take control of their digital presence:
Identifying Your Customer: Who are you really trying to reach? We worked through how to define customer personas and match them to the platforms where they’re most active.
Mapping the Customer Journey: From awareness to conversion, we explored how social media can play a role at every stage — and how to create content that meets your audience where they are.
Content Pillars with Purpose: We helped each business define their core areas of expertise and turn them into meaningful content themes that reflect their values and resonate with their audience.
Planning with Confidence: I shared tips for creating a manageable and realistic content calendar — one that supports consistency without overwhelm.
Measuring What Matters: Finally, we looked at tools and methods to track social performance, learn what’s working, and keep improving.
A special thank you to the Ballyhoura Development team for the warm welcome and brilliant organisation, and to Órla Hickey Designs — I was delighted to showcase your business as a case study in smart digital strategy.

The shared learning, honest conversations, and positive energy in the room were truly inspiring. I’m looking forward to continuing the journey with this fantastic group of entrepreneurs.
