Delivering Digital Marketing Training for Tourism Businesses in Ballyhoura & Cuilcagh Lakelands
In March, I had the pleasure of delivering two digital marketing training sessions through McCool Solutions for businesses connected with both the Visit Ballyhoura network and the Cuilcagh Lakelands Geopark tourism community.
The sessions brought together tourism providers, activity operators, accommodation businesses, and experience providers from across the regions. What stood out most was the strong level of engagement from participants and the willingness to share experiences, challenges, and ideas with one another. It created a very positive group learning environment where everyone could take something practical away for their own business.
A Practical Approach to Digital Marketing
The focus of the training was on practical digital marketing strategies that tourism businesses can apply immediately. The sessions explored a number of key areas including:
Understanding how customers discover tourism businesses online
Improving visibility on search engines and social platforms
Creating content that answers real customer questions
Understanding the role of organic and paid digital marketing
How data and analytics can inform smarter marketing decisions
Practical steps to improve website performance and conversions
The goal was not simply to discuss theory, but to help businesses better understand how digital marketing fits into the customer journey — from awareness through to booking.
The Power of Shared Learning
One of the most valuable aspects of the sessions was the collaborative nature of the discussions. Tourism businesses often face similar challenges — from seasonality to international markets — and the opportunity to share ideas and experiences across the group created a very supportive learning environment.
It was particularly encouraging to see how open participants were to discussing their own digital marketing activity, asking questions, and exploring new approaches together.
Looking Ahead to the Mentoring Programme
The training sessions were just the starting point. I am very much looking forward to working further with businesses from both regions through the one-to-one mentoring programme, where we can explore individual digital strategies in more depth and identify practical opportunities for growth.
These mentoring sessions will allow businesses to focus on their own websites, analytics, social media activity, and digital advertising, ensuring that the learning from the workshops translates into measurable results.
Thank You
My sincere thanks to both Visit Ballyhoura and Cuilcagh Lakelands Geopark for the opportunity to work with such an engaged and forward-thinking group of tourism businesses.
It was a privilege to be part of the programme, and I look forward to continuing the conversation with participants over the coming months.
